Benzoyl Peroxide and Acne

Of all the chemical elements out there, Benzoyl Peroxide is probably the most known effective treatment against acne. It is made up of 2 parts benzoyl and one part peroxide. Concentrations range from 2.0% up to 10%, but many scientists agree that low dosages from 2.0% – 5% are just as effective as a 10% concentration and may be more welcomed by the skin.

How It Works

Primarily for mild cases of acne, it can be used by adults as well as children. Since it is a bleaching agent (avoid hair or clothing contact), it can initially cause skin dryness and a little irritation. When using benzoyl peroxide it is believed to be absorbed into the hair follicles under the skin. The chemical then comes into contact with the acne causing bacteria destroying it and clearing your pores. It is important to note, this chemical can only kill acne bacteria and not prevent it. So continued use after the acne clears up is suggested.

Its Forms

You can get Benzoyl Peroxide in many different forms. It comes in cremes, ointments, gels, facial bars, and pills. Use only as directed and be careful not to get any in the eyes, nose, or mouth. There have also been studies done that indicate pregnant women should not use this product as there is potential harm to the fetus.

Acnezine

Acnezine contains both the capsules and the moisturizing creme. Specifically the moisturizing creme contains 2.4% benzoyl peroxide. This active ingredient will fight acne on the surface and reduce inflammation under the skin.
